Isalm caused more harm to Black people than Chrsitianisty, slavery, the Whites and teh West put together.
Why don't you find out simple facts:
Did Muhammed own slaves?
Did he ban slavery?
Are Black women to THIS DAY considered slaves liable to be taken at will by Arabs?
Did the Saudi Sheikhs recently declare Black women to be without Awrah(which means they can wear what they like, no Hijab necessary as too ugly to excite men - I kid you not)
Find out facts yourself. And Malcolm was as ignorant about islam and its history as you are.

It may be that you had an incident with a muslim that caused you to be bias against Islam or Muslims because you seem hostile as if your trying to defend yourself.
Dont be emtional, use your intellect, after all this is the religion of God, I would like to quote a verse from the Quran, this verse is being said to or by Luqman, a man that existed many yeas before Prophet Muhammad peace be upon him, and Luqman was an African slave, God had given him wisdom but Luqman wasnt a prophet, but he was so grateful and devoted to Allah that Allah named a chapter after him and mentioned him in His noble Book. Luqman (either said to his son or it is said to him by God) "Be grateful to Allah." And whoever is grateful is grateful for the benefit of himself. And whoever denies [Allah's favour]- indeed, Allah is free of needs and Praiseworthy, (chapter 31, Luqman, verse 12)

Peace be upon everyone who reads this. i would just like to answer ur questions. first, i would like to kindly ask you not to degrade muslim women who wear the scarf, for i am a 16 years old girld who lives in america and proudly wears a scarf. Did Muhammed own slaves? they owned servants, and they were required to treat them with some guidelines islam gave them. some of these guidelines includetearting them with respect and as an equal. also, they had to feed them the same foods they were eating, and they must fulfill any needs the servant has. when umar (may Allah be pleased with him) became the caliph, he was traveling to jerusalem with a camel and a servant. he and his servant were taking turns riding the camel and by the time they reached jerusalem, it was the servant's turn. the kings assumed the servant was umar and were shocked when they found out otherwise. Did he ban slavery? no he didn't, because at the time and still today, people are in need of servants because they cannot handle everyday work. an example is the elderly. Also, God made it an obligation to treat these servants just as the people wished to be treated. Are Black women to THIS DAY considered slaves liable to be taken at will by Arabs? No. i dont know what you saw in Jordan and other arab countries, but when i visited with an african american friend, everyone treated her with utmost respect. if anything, they disregarded my presence because i was arab and they gave her all she had needed. And yes, Allahu Akbar. if you are denying this, u must be an athiest, for the meaning of this phrase is that God is Greatest, and i am sure that in all religions, God is believed to be the Greatest. i would like to address any concerns you have regarding Islam, for it is sad to see such ignorance from someone who seems learned as you do. please contact me if you have any questions

Good luck with the Hijab young lady it is your culture. Muhammed did not introduce it it was already there for thousnads of years. you are wearing what your ancestors wore. It is not part of our culture as Blacks and you gotta admit Black people look absolutely ridicolous in Arab gear.
Alas there is nothing you can teach me about Isalm that I already do not know. I agree that Arab people are warm and generous to visitors particularly if they come from the West. Arabs are not so nice to the poor Afro-Arabs who live with them.
Do you know that Afro-Arabs still do not intermarry with arabs? Do you know that they still do specific jobs like carrying out executions in saudi or serving tea in Oman? Intriguingly they also do the same things Black Americans do: Sing and dance for living. Almost all the dancers, musicians and singesr in Kuwait, Saudi, UAE, Qatar and even southern Iraq(Basra and Zubair in particular) ar blacks.
But unlike America they are still isolated socuially after two thiousnad years of living in Arabia
Hijab is not my culture. Arab is not my way of life. Islam is my way of life. Black might be your culture, but if you are muslim, that shouldn't matter one bit. this is our major problem today. culture often intertwines with our religion. If you are a muslim, why does it matter what culture you are, that shouldn't be a hindrance in how you follow religion. you shouldn't care how you look in hijab. if anything, that is the point of Hijab, to hide one's beauty from the evils of this ugly world. I find you quite mistaken. African American women are among the prettiest, therefore it is a bigger obligation on black muslim women to wear hijab. Also...when you look at the arab world and talk about how they deal with others, keep in mind that not all arabs are muslims and not all muslims practice islam {the way it should be practiced} so when looking into a religion, never look at the people 'following' it, look at the religion itself. thanks to whoever took their time to read this

Bilal was not a `companion' he was a butler and a dogsbody for Muhammed and his aristocratic arab cousins. He did save Muhammed at Uhud raid from certain death yet he was treated with contempt once Muhammed returned triumphantly to mecca. He was completely igniored and denied to marry a free Arab women. He left Mecca in disgust and was never heard of again. some say he died in Yemen nearly 1000 miles south of Mecca.
But what i would like you to check is this: Why would a religion obsessed with nbanning things did not ban sopmething as evil as slavery?
If you ever get an opportunity to visit mecca ask for the `raq' market. Amazingly this evil place where human beings - black men, women and children were branded, shackled, poked, castrated and poked is only about ten minutes walk from Muhammed's residence. He would have heard the screams as children as young as five were publicly openly raped by would be buyers to `test-drive' their `property.
Also ask about the `wama malakat aymanuhum' rule. It still ALLOWS for slavery AND rape of Black women in Isalm and is practised in places like Sudan and Mauritania by arab Muslims on Black africans.
lastly ask about Juwairiyah. She was 14 and Black. Muhamed was 54 qwhen he accepted her as a `gift'. She was not married. No ceremonies held, no wedding party no jewellry given nor her father honoured. All of these Muhammed at least did for all his other ewives because they were arabs. She was just taken because she was a slave and Black
Spare a thought for her.

5. Is slavery allowed in islam today? If not why not since there is no verse banning it?

A lot of stuff!Monsani,
Judging from your presumption that slavery, or anything else, was the Prophet Muhammad's (peace be upon him) to ban, I would say that you've never read the following in the Quraan:
Surah An-Najm
53:3 Nor does he [Muhammad, peace be upon him] say (aught) of (his own) Desire.
53:4 It is no less than inspiration sent down to him.
Now that you've read these verses, you should realize that the precepts of Islaam, what the Quraan commands and what it forbids, is not based upon the desires of Muhammad, Sall Allaahu alayhe wa Sallam. Both alcohol and pork were banned by the Creator of everything in existance: Allaah.
Monsani, you asked, "have they heard about Juwariyah?" I ask, "Have you heard about Sauda?"
Monsani, you wrote: "Oh how I cry for ignorance of my people. If they want to worship some cruel God why not go back to our roots and worship AFRICAN gods?" - This is very funny! LOL. I guess worshipping a "cruel God" is OK as long as it's an "AFRICAN" God, huh??? Laugh.
Now, Monsani, you really don't have to answer the above questions, but I intend to ask you a few more, which I do want you to answer. Once you've replied, God Willing, I'll move on to number 2. Since you talk about "AFRICAN gods" (I'm just smiling now...chuckling actually), I'll presume you believe that there is also a devil, and ask...
Number 1: Monsani, what's worst: slavery, or the devil?
actually, i prefer not to. as a matter of fact, i feel insulted...are you challenging me???? because if you are, you are not only ignorant, but also really childish (for challenging a 16 year old who knows more than you do about the matter). secondly, there is soooo much i can teach you about islam because u obviously know nothing about it. sorry to burst your bubble, but you are the most ignorant man i have ever come across, and the fact that you are unwilling to discuss this with me shows me that you are scared. because you can't handle the truth. you know nothing about islam. the truth is that we are all known as 'abid' which means slave. we are all slaves of God. your ignorance gets me soo mad, and i really believe you should talk to me, i don't know much, but from what i've heard from you, i know u got it all wrong. sorry that i sound rude, but sombody's gotta say it to ya. and if you so concerned about the oppression of 'your' people {the black brothers and sisters...the muslims blacks would be considered my people btw} i think you should start with the way our country is run. today when i was taking the ACT, all 'your' people were forced to sit in the back of the room, i was even allowed to sit in the front and i wear the scarf. 'your' people are being oppressed and enslaved now more than ever, for they are looked down upon not only in society, but also in every aspect of this country. in islam (the cruel and inhumane religion which you know so much about) does not favor one person over the other based on race or ethnicity. the quran (which u read so many times but obviously skipped over many versus) clearly states in surat al-hujarat that Allah created us different tribes and nations so that we get to know each other and that the best of us {in God's eyes} are those who are pious. then, a saying from Muhammad (SA--who was sooo evil and corrupt) states that piety is found only in the heart, therefore, it is impossible to know who is better than the other. this creates equality and justice in the way we deal with each other as people, for you must treat them well because you never know if they may be better than you.

Milatarism and violence and hate has no race or religion. Muslims kill Muslims and everybody else so do Chrisytains. It is really beyond me why Black americans have turned on Jews a group of people and faith who are tine(20 million globally) who never colonised or enslaved a single Black country and who strongly and unequivocally stood on our side during the civil rights movement of the 60s at great risk to themselves. Why Black Americans pick on Jews is something I never quite understood. Please enlighten me. I mean that because you know more about it than I do.
I am heartened to see young Blacks doing something positive for themselves instead of getting into trouble or singing dumb rap songs and talking bout bitches and guns. But do they need to embrace an imported alien faith they do not understand to be good human beings?
You say hopw will i feel if my parents were kidnapped from afrixca and held in america. How would you feel if your parents were kidnapped from africa and held hostage in Arabia? The treatment you receive today in america from whites is million times BETTER than what Afri-Arabs receive from Arabs. In fact I will say Black americans whinge and whine for no reason: the whites bent over backwards in the last thirty years to treat you well with Affirmative Action in full-swing and business and education opportunities at your feet. You do not realise how lucky you are. Go and find out how your brothers and sisters in the Arab world are treated. Ever heard of Thawrat al Zinj? It only happens to be the biggest revolution ever launched by black man anywhere. The arabs still speak of it with dread and awe.
Thank you and sorry If I sound harsh. It is out of love for my people who i think need to know what they are taking on here.
Who ever wrote this comment is ignorant. If you studied Islam you would know that the prophet taught and practiced freeing slaves and the belief that all people are equal. That is why muslims, black or white, rich or poor, pray side by side because in the eyes of God we are all equal. Islam teaches to respect every person and every religion.

I am not even sure if there were arabs at that time.. maybe caledonians or phonicians...etc
2.The religion of Islam is totally against slavery. As a matter of fact a lot of slaves were set free by their owners when these owners converted into Islam. I dont know where you heard or read this story about the black boy and "juwariya" but its definitely not true.
3. I havent seen the video but even without that I can clearly say that YOUR ignorance here comes unmatched. Its a shame how someone like you with access to the internet and living in the year 2006 can come out with such nonsense.

As it happens I know one or two things about Islam: its history, its ideas, origins, cultures and believers. In fact if it will not embarras you I could even guess where your surname originally comes from(Hamdi being very arabic but `Aslan' not so)
I am not surprised you never heard of juwairiyah; most muslim Asians haven't. Why should they? she was just another little black girl among Millions of little black girls and boys who suffered unimagibale cruelty at the hands of Muslims and arabs over thousands of years before and after Islam.
This particular little girl was even denied a proper name: Juwairiyah means `the little servant girl' and was given as a present to Muhamed. He `took her' under the standard and still standing Islamic law of Wama malakat aymanuhum(What their Right Hand possess)
I have no problem with Arabs and asains and europeans worshipping Gods and faiths spawned by their cultures and which therefore reflect their values. That is the way humanity behaves. It is not a matter of God making man in his image it is exactly the other way round: man making God in his image. So for example Allah is clearly, unmistakably an Arab God. He has 99 Arabic names which reflect Arabic values(Al-Muntaqim `the revenge Taker' is an exmple).
What really irritates me as you must have suspected by now is Black people, Africans and and diaspora Africans, ignorantly worshipping Gods and faith systems and idaes that have been used to humilaite and murder en masse our people iover thousands of years and in teh case of isalm continues to this day as in Southern sudan, mauritania and the whole of the Arab world.
It is OUR ignorance and the pridelessess that gets to me. Why do NOI have suits(European) and Turkish Flags(Turkish!) on bowties(European) while worshipping Allah(Arab God)? The dumbness of it!
Why do black girls wera effing Hijabs when they have not the faintest idea the ideas and cultures behind it? Do they know what fitnah actually maens(chaos, anarchy)? Doubt it.
Hey man, why don't you get your facts right first of all? Who said the Muslim Arabs started the slave trade? The concept of slavery was started somewhere in Europe when the Dutch took lands and used captured victims to help with supplies and chores. This eventaully evolved into slavery. In Islam, if someone gives you a gift, you should take it or at least part of it as a sign of gratitude. Muhammad (PBUH) took slaves as gifts as a sign of gratitude. Also, he never took another persons wife. And if extremist wackos would stop blowing themselves up in the name of a religion that encourages more peace than any other, maybe not as many people would get beaten. It's just sad that people like you would make up these facts, just to punish those of us that dont support terrorism in any way. One would think you might have something better to do, but i guess not. I feel it is my duty as a Muslim to clarify any aspects of my religion that have not been correctly stated.

Among his very first companions (apostles) it was Bilal a black man that was the slave of the tyran of Mekkah at this time. Bilal was persecuted because of his faith in One God. He was freed from his torturers and 'masters' after the other companions (Abu Bakr Seddiq) of the Prophet (may be peace upon him) collected money to buy his freedom from the one that had persecuted him. Bilal had the honnor to be the first man of this humanity to make a call to the prayer. Remember he was a black man among so many arabs but because of his sincere faith and good heart. Islam came for the whole Humanity, for arabs,blacks,caucasians,semites,hispanic,asian,south-asian. Jesus was from a jewish background and christianity is being practiced everywhere. Bilal was used as a butler and chanting the first 'adaan' was not an honour but no different from white slave masters asking the black slave to play the fiddle after dinner. It was oi, Bilal boy go and shout with your big black voice.
The questions no one bothered to answer is ths: what happened to Bilal after Muhammed won teh civil war and came to power? Every other arab who accompanied Muhammed to the flight to medina was given power and money and privelege. Bila disappears off the map despite saving Muhammed from certain death at uhud.
Am a Muslim, Arab who lives in the Middle East whose travelled the world time and time again with only one out take: the ignorance in the Western Hemisphere is unbeatable. Am not surprised to see much ignorance about Isalm. Its always been the case, but what is worse is when you are actually ignorant about simple historical facts and even current present facts: 1. Not only was the last Prince [Emir] of Kuwait black but also quite a considerable portion of Saudi Arabia's Royaltly are black. So is the Sultan of Oman's current Sultan, and the late president Sadat of Egypt. The Arab world and that of Islam has had more black presidents, politicians, and influtentially respected members of society than the entire world has ever had. The USA (Guradian of Democracy and liberal rights), the UK (its number one accomplice), the entire of Europe still suffer from major discrimnation against African and non-caucasian, anglosaxonian communities. Only recently was their a FORCED change so as to save face infront of the world. 2. The Prophet (PBUH) said: there is no difference between a man/woman and another except with his faith. 3. One of the women who raised prophet Mohamed (PBUH), as an orphan was an African woman and when once someone threw a racist comment against black people during one of his teaching circles he screamed "God curse you, Mohamed's mother was black!" meaning that discrimination, especially against black people is forbidden since they stand dear to the prophet. 4.Muslims worldwide are taught that one of the first people to stand by the side of the prophet was the Emperor of Ethiopia who was also Christian. He agreed to help protect him when need be, though apologized for being unable to convert because of his social standing. The prophet called for his respect and respect to his people, and when Islam grew to a strong empire never was the emperor forced to convert. 5. When Islam spoke of slavery it didn't speak of it against black people. Slaves at the time of Islam where "people of all colors and race that were captured in war". So they won't only black. And Islam called for its end. And it did end in the Arab and Muslim world YEARS before they even thought of civil and liberal rights in the West. 6. Bilal was bought by prophet Mohamed and freed. Not only that, he was promised heaven and is one of the first people to enter the lands of paradise in Islam (he was only one of 10 people that was told that he will go to heaven by prophet Mohamed), and he was the first mouazen in Isalm (he called for prayers because of his enchanting voice). Muslims would dream and pray to attain his degree in faith. 7. Intermarriages between different ethnicities is not common in this part of the world, not because of religion, but more because reasons of kinship. Yet still they are common. 8. We never had mosques for blacks and others for whites, or restaurants for blacks and others for whites. get the point? Islam looks at people based on faith value and not face value. And we as Muslims are asked to respect all people regardless of their beliefs (please don't use the fanatics as our models, we don't use puritans to judge christianity).

one question to Monsani Lumumba: you keep claiming that if only people knew the cultures and ideas behind Hijab, they would not practice it. what exactly do you believe these cultures are?
because from what i know, this is a beautiful concept, which protects and shields women from the desire of man and from fitna. i have been practicing the hijab since the eighth grade and it has always been my choice.
this concept, like any other, only works and serves its purpose when practiced the correct and complete way. therefore, showing the arms and neck (which must be covered under the concept) defeats the purpose of hijab.

Was salaam.
I played basketball from the age of 9 thru college. During High School it was extremely challenging for me and my older sister who played before me. We were not only ridiculed for wearing long pants, but sometimes given technical fouls or even pulled off the court for being out of uniform. This was doing the late 80Â’s early 90Â’s in Detroit, MI. We continued to play and fight for our rights to play. It is very good to hear of not only one girl playing in modest dress but, an entire team. May ALLAH (swt) continue to reward and bless you all in all your endeavors, ameen.
We as American muslims have to Show what Islam is about, because people like Foxnews will twist it all the time. They know where that come form and my sisters will do great not in sports but in life. Hazrat Mujahid said, "Neither a shy nor a proud person can learn religious
knowledge." Hazrat Aisha (raa) said, "How excellent the women of the Ansar are
that they do not feel shy while learning sound knowledge in religion."
(Bukhari)
This in no means implies that they would not practice the appropriate level of decency and covering, but merely says that they were not timid or afraid to come forward when it came to learning and understanding knowledge.
Assalamualaykum
You guys are outstanding! I as a muslim girl also play basketball, and I am the only one in my team and school who plays with sweat pants, and people usually laugh or make rude comments behide my back at times. And i don't care becasue I know I'm doing the right thing. But seeing as how you girls can go on the court with not only sweatpants but head-scrafs aswell, and still beat them and prove them wrong about us! Well all I have to say is thank you for making me love basketball even more, and may Allah bless you all.
Assalamualaykum
Thank you ! your stories, struggles and tirumphs have brightened up my day...week...year :) Keep on reaching high seeing the value in sharing your journey. Yall are WINNERS for real. Al-humdulillah
I WUD GR8TLY APPRECIATE IF U CUD COVER UR ARMS ...WEN U PRAY///
N KEEP GOIN GALZ...ALL DE VERY BEST!!ALLAH WILLL B ALWAYS ON UR SIDE..INSHALLAH.
I was sure to forward this link to as many people as I know. Mashallah, the women there are so mentally strong and compete in a fashion that others may consider wrong (with sweatpants and scarf)...but at the end even the announcer is fascinated by the fact that during fast, these women take a Timeout for some water. Mashallah, may Allah reward you all for your effors. Jazak Allah Khair.
You guys are true inspiration to all the others who attend schools/universities around the world. Stay strong and have patience..may Allah reward you all for preserving the muslim image and continuing the spread of Islam as well.
One thing I'd like to comment on is the sleeves...Please lengthen it upto your wrist.
Mashallah , I was surprised , God be with you in your whole life .
Good luck and keep the name of Islam up
Being a Muslim basketball player (though I'm not too good at it), seeing y'all really isnpired me. Allah bless y'all!!!!!
As Salaam Alaikum:
Some of you have nothing better to do than to worry about teen age girls showing an elbow? Does a elbow do something for you? Jeesh I swear, worry about your own arms. If they did cover all the way down to the wrist some of you would still have something to say. Muslims good for telling someone else how they should practice. They speak based on weak Hadith and culture. Show me the Ayat where it says women have to cover to the wrist. If people read more than these cheap Islam made simple (simple minded) books based on 90% culture and mans personal oppinons instead of showing the vast view points on modest dress throughout Islamic History you wouldn't even speak about such things. The Arabs and the immigrants address most of the blacks behind their backs as abd or slave anyway. According to several figh books even with-in the 4 schools a slave could attend prayer as long as they were covered from the waist down and they weren't allowed to cover thier hair. If things are so cut and dry why are things one way for the slave and another way for the free women? Alah SWT doesn't address just the "free women" in the modest verse He SWT just addresses women. Go crack a book open and worry about yourselves.

SISTER PLEASE OPEN THE QURAN AND FOLLOW THE SUNNAH!!!!!!!!!1Rafiq wrote:
How do expect people to respect your words if you yourself is generalizing The Arabs and immigrants? It is true that as Muslims we all should look to ourselves before we comment on others. However, when it comes to praying, it is fard for a female to cover her arms up to her rist.. it just is. And, also as Muslims, it is our duty to tell others about this. So it's not criticism, it's advice.
But, other than the whole praying part, yes, females have a choice of how they want to represent Islam and should not be forced to do otherwise. I applaud these sister's for at least getting themselves out there. With all the bad press Muslims have been getting for the past decade, it's about time they see Muslims in another light.
ASAK A true believer follows Quran and Sunnah and this is command by the Prophet (SAW) and Allah(SWT) and whenever we forge lie aganist Allah (SWT) we have commited the same sins that the jews and the christian have commited. We cant pick and choose what were going to pratice in the Quran and the sunnah, and as far as the schools of thought, you have just forge a lie against Allah (swt) servants. We dont worship man we worship Allah. The Quran and Sunnah isnt an Arab's culture these books were sent to mankind by the Allah (swt) The creator of the heavens and the earth. You need to read Sahih Al-Bukhari. You appears to be somewhat weak in Iman, and and mis-informed your justifying a Haram act. However the !st act of racsim is when Iblis failed to bow down to Adam ( AWS). You have now accuse the brothers and sister who were formost in faith of being rascist that is clearly ignorance. You need to pick up a book and read, and Bilal whom was a slave was one of the companions of the Prophet(SAW) again formost in faith, and when he became Muslim he was not treated like a slave.
After all that talent and hard work, why were the eliminated? I really hope it was not caused by reasons that shouldn't be taken into consideration. After all, how often is there a team with such a bright future, sophisticated talent, deep dedication, and modest view of life?
It was very inspiring to watch the video, my 4 year old daughter watched it too. I hope it will make a mark on her too!! It's very inspiring to find youth that are living a "normal life" and at the same time "a normal religious life". It's hard to balance them in this world.........so good for you!!! MA SHAA ALLAH!! I hope my daughter will grow up to be like you ladies.
As Salaam Alaikum! This has made my day!!!!!!!!! I love to see young women reaching for the stars! I do agree with Rafiq. Always think about the positive things. Gurls, Represent!!!! Holla!
i am studying sport sociology and was wondering if anyone knew if there was a print article about this basketball team.

So, I started to think about this a little bit. I agree that ignorant ridicule should be overcome. I also agree that some dress (if you can call it that) has gone too far, moving away from utility/practicality to gratuitous exposure. I see that especially at track and field events, where women and men are basically running in undergarments.
All that said, I do think there is a point at which the dress does get in the way. Sweatpants are hot. Shorts are appropriate for sports where you are expending a lot of energy and your legs are getting hot.
Islam does not address this directly, simply because women's basketball was not around when the Koran was written. So, how you interpret and apply it to modern day situations is up to you, not up to some conservative imam sitting steeped in theocracy and surrounded by yes-men.
It should be a personal decision, not a dictat. It should not reflect on you as a Muslim whether you choose to obey some edicts or someone's interpretation of edicts.
It is wrong to force Muslim girls to wear shorts against their will. It is also wrong to force them to wear hot, cloying sweatpants when they are engaging in exercise. It should be a personal choice, and the uniform should accommodate those that want it, as well as those that don't.
One side is not porn stars, and the other side is not nuns (or terrorists). Can't we all just practice tolerance and meet at a happy, reasonable medium? I don't have a problem with the girls wearing sweatpants, but I do take exception to them looking down at those who don't, or on Muslims cheering them on as if this is a pious act that needs to be rewarded and should serve as an example to those Muslim girls who choose to play in shorts. Though mild, it too is a form of extremism. There is simply no need to impose your view on others. Just practice it yourself, that's all.
You play basketball for basketball, not to make political/religious statements. On that front, congrats to the team for a stellar, inspirational turnaround. Way to go!!!
Actually, playing in sweat pants isn't really that hard...although (at our school) we play Muslim schools, and it is seperate and no men are allowed in the gym, some of us still choose to wear pants, and others long sleeves so that we just slip a scarf on during half-time for prayer. but i get your point. i understand that no one should be forced and that ultimately, it's their decision, but it is an obligation in islam, and if one chooses not to fulfill their duties as muslims, they are held responsible for their own actions. if you don't agree, that's fine...everyone is entitled to their own opinion, but read surat al Nur. it should clear things up concerning what is 'awrah for a woman. Also, i get what you mean about basketball not being around at the time, but at the same time, as a muslim girl, i chose to be on the basketball team and if it means compramising my beliefs or disobeying Allah in any way, i will also will choose to quit, but i will not impose my beliefs on the matter on others. because the fact is that wearing hijab is fard (obligatory), regardless of what activites we choose to be apart of. those activites are not obligatory, therefore, it is our duty as muslims to set prioreties. you can call me extremist if you want, i don't mind, i know im not, i'm just following basic principles of belief in Islam. it all comes down to one thing. we are given all we need to know about following our religion and we must take it as it is (and not try to interpert it according to today's world.) we could either live by it or say it doesn not apply to us, but in the end we are held accountable for what we did or did not do.
Anon, well said. i agree with pointless, graphic exposure beginning to permeate sports. besides track and field, check out ice skating. why are the men covered up and able to skate well, yet women find it necessary to give us an introduction to gynecology?

Please stop talking about the way in which these sisters were dressed. Allah addresses the women in the Quran and asks them to be modest. Covering the entire arm is a choice not a dictate by Allah.
These sisters put it in gear and are representing their school which is named after the greatest Islamic thinker of the 21 century, Imam WD Mohammed. It is through his vision and insight that we have an Islamic community that is fully participatory in the whole of American life. We African-American Muslims have fought long and hard for our place in this world and we will not be criticized by the "bench warmers" who sat on the side-lines and watched us struggle.
To my wonderful "little sisters" who are carrying on the dreams of the ancestors Stay strong and don't fear the criticism of the criticisors.

these sisters showed us a good example of successful people in their life and also committed to Islam at the same time, but their hijab is not complete as they have to cover their ears, necks, and arms especially when they pray. may ALLAH help them and all our brothers and sisters.

Give me a break and stop hating on these wonderful young women. Stop spreading that ignorance about how a Muslim woman is supposed to be covered. Covering the entire head, neck and arm is the custom of Muslims of Arab and some South Asian decent it has NOTHING to do with Al-Islam.
Allah taught the Prophet to READ to read meaning to gain wisdom. I pray the same for you.

I am with you and your efforts. In time I expect we can go a step further and improve on the dress code to silence the sceptics. To be proud as Muslims and show that pride to the public goes a long way to show to non-Muslims that you are normal citizens and anyone can be like you. I am sure you will attract many non-Muslims because they too want to be like you. May Allah guide you all keep you firm on the Faith.
True Islamic culture effects the world so much in a postitive way. Its's just a distorted view thatgets televised so much. Muslims have a significant hand in almost everything, even sports. There are so many outstanding Muslim athletes. It's a blessin that ESPN is able to shed some light on this, and show a group of all Muslim Student-Athletes who are sosuccessful. I also think that when Muslims are successful in arts and sports, espesially in America, it's a great way of doing Dawah. Our Ummah will definetely benefit from positive broadcasting like this.
I actually shivered wen i saw this ,,,Masha Allah Allah Protect you and Yahdy anfosna,,,This is great girls keep it on i wish you all th ebest ,,,but very little comment I am not veiled true but yur hands should be covered ,,,but a the end this is beautiful Masha Allah
i gta giv MAAAD respekt to the girls team for believin in the truth and not being shy to be themselves in public. i admire ur persistence regardless of wat ur competitors may say. i aint much of a basketball fan, but i just wanted to giv maaaad *PROPZ*. -respekt.
and for all the ppl who posted shit about women not having to cover up...dont post nemore. i wont tell ne1 to cover up, but for ppl to say its not necessary or that its not that important. just shutup.
